Volunteer With us

Where “i’ve Been Working on the railroad” becomes a Reality

The Monticello Railway Museum depends on an all-volunteer staff to keep things running smoothly. There are always lots of things to do at the museum; activities are not limited to running trains. Some of the things that we can always use help with include:

Volunteers at work on Rock Island coach #2541.
  • Train crews

  • Restoration projects

  • Construction of new facilities and exhibits

  • Track work

  • General property maintenance (mowing, trimming, etc.)

  • Managing exhibits

  • Tour guides for certain walk-through exhibits

  • Working the gift shop

  • Coordinating special events

  • Paperwork and administrative support

  • Archival activities

  • And much more!

Your time is valuable and we appreciate the importance of finding a good fit as you consider a volunteer commitment. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact us here, talk to any of our staff members, or inquire at the Nelson Crossing depot during your next visit. Volunteers are members of the museum, which you can learn more about here.
