Quaker Oats co. #127 Receives Fresh Coat of Paint

Earlier this spring, museum volunteers prepped and painted QOCX 127. This car is filled with shelving and is used to store spare parts for the museum. This car was last rebuilt and painted in the early 1980’s, and that old blue scheme had deteriorated and the car was starting to rust after being in the elements for 40 years. One weekend, this 50 foot boxcar was cleaned, and washed with a mild acid to prep it for a fresh coat of paint. The following weekend, the car was primed, black painted, lettering applied, and blue sprayed all over. An amazing detail of this project is that it was all done by our “young” volunteers, who are all in their 20’s. Check out other ongoing projects and consider volunteering at: http://www.mrym.org/
