Illinois Central 3336

3336 sitting in Crest Hill Illinois January 2020. Note radio antenna on car original as built condition in 1948. The car had a console radio in the lounge which was a major travel amenity in 1948!

Close up of one of the roof ventilators. This is very similar condition of ventilators on other museum cars, prior to restoration.

Car side and truck condition. Trucks were rebuilt by the car's previous owner, including new wheel sets and bearings, but never used.

"B" or brake end of car. Missing diaphragm.

Side sill rusted through. This area will be further assessed, cut out then replaced with new steel welded in place.

Battery box underneath car.

One of 2 small service doors on the car. This door is adjacent to the bar area of the car allowing quickly loading and restocking supplies from station platform or commissary prior to each trip.

Soft area of floor entering the car. This is typical Pullman construction with a steel sheet pan called chanarch placed over structural members. A pour-able (flexolith) floor material was then poured and leveled to create the floor.

Entering the lounge/bar section of car. This section was separated from coach section by partitions. As passengers left the coach section, they would pass 2 dining car tables with booths and seating for 8 passengers. Small lounge section before bar seated 5 and location of the radio which was played for onboard entertainment. Radio console location on lower right of bar.

Bar area detail showing beer tap. Travelers had one choice of draft beer in 1948! A variety of bottled and canned beer was available in addition to mixed drinks.

Seating number indicator. Original to car. Note the Green Diamond shape the logo of the railroad and representative of being built for the "Green Diamond" that ran between Chicago and St Louis. In 1948, IC replaced the original 1936 streamliner train with updated equipment.
